BetterEdits

BetterEdits is a small native macOS video editor. You drop footage on one timeline, trim it, add music, a voiceover, text and subtitles, and export an MP4. It works in a folder called a workspace, and every workspace carries a guide so Claude Code can edit alongside you.

The windows

BetterEdits has three windows and a Settings window.

• The workspace window opens first. Its sidebar shows the workspace name, its media folders and your account. The main area lists your videos as cards. New Project, Clone Reel… and Import Project… live here too. See Workspace and Projects.
• The project window opens when you pick a video. The viewer sits at the top with the canvas pill in its corner and the Guides and zoom controls below it. The toolbar holds Import, Audio, Voiceover, Text, Subtitles, Export, Workspace and your account. The timeline fills the bottom, with the transport bar above it. Click a track header and its panel opens on the left. Select a clip and its sidebar opens on the right.
• The Welcome to BetterEdits window shows the tour and the offer when the app is locked. See Install and Account.
• Settings (⌘,) has six tabs. See Settings.

Where to start

1. Install the app and finish the tour. See Install.
2. Create a workspace with New Workspace…. See Workspace.
3. Press ⌘N for a new project and drop a clip on the timeline. See Timeline.
4. Press ⌘E to export. See Export.
