Sign in, the trial, the subscription, credits, and Settings › Account.
One account for both apps
BetterEdits uses your BetterApps account. The credential is one file on this Mac, shared with BetterLibrary. Signing in to either app signs in both. Signing out of either signs out both.
Each app has its own subscription, its own trial and its own credit balance. A BetterLibrary subscription does not unlock BetterEdits.
Sign in
Sign-in happens in the browser, never inside the app. The Welcome to BetterEdits window opens the dashboard for you. When the dashboard is done it returns you to the app, which reads the account and unlocks. See Install.
Trial and subscription
The trial is seven days with 300 credits, one per app per account. After the trial the subscription bills monthly or yearly. Cancelling in the dashboard keeps the app unlocked until the end of the paid period.
The app locks itself when the subscription lapses. It also locks when it has not been able to reach BetterApps for three days.
Where the account shows
The account is a small button with your avatar and name.

Click it to open the account popover: your name and email, one line for the plan ("BetterEdits · Trial, 5 days left", "BetterEdits · Active, renews Oct 8", "BetterEdits · Payment failed"), one line for the credits with a Buy credits link, Manage account and Sign out. Opening the popover refreshes the account.
A dot on the button means something needs attention. Amber is a trial or subscription ending within three days. Red is a failed payment or a day without reaching BetterApps. No dot means all is well.
For those same states a banner runs across the top of the window once per session, with one button: Manage account, Resume or Update card. Close it with the X.
Credits
Two features spend credits.

The rates are listed under What a credit buys in Settings › Account. The Subtitles toolbar button shows its rate in its help text.
Credits never expire. Each month's credits are added to the balance. Packs bought with Buy credits join the same balance.
A job that costs more than 100 credits, or more than a tenth of your balance, asks first with its estimated cost and your balance. Smaller jobs run at once.
When the balance is too low the job fails with an alert that carries a Buy Credits button. Nothing is charged for a failed call.
Settings › Account
Settings › Account (⌘,) shows the same content as the popover plus this Mac's name and What a credit buys. Its buttons are Manage account, Buy credits, See usage, Connected Macs and Sign out. Cards, invoices and cancelling live in the dashboard, which Manage account opens with the browser signed in as this account.
Sign out
Sign out asks first: "Sign out of BetterApps on this Mac?" It reminds you that BetterLibrary is signed out too. Your files stay where they are. The app returns to the Welcome to BetterEdits window.
