Shelves

The sidebar has four shelves. Each remembers its own layout, sort and columns.

Grid or table

The segmented control at the right of the filter bar switches between cards and a table.

A card shows the thumbnail, the name, the duration, HDR and audio badges, a miniature of the clip's shape, one line of description, the rating glyphs and the tags. A thin bar per highlight runs above the name. Hover a card for a moment and it plays, muted and looping. A clip with highlights loops its first one.

The table has a column per clip fact and per property: Name, Status, AI status, Description, Duration, Dimensions, Created, Imported, Size. Click a header to sort. Drag headers to reorder. Right-click a header for Wrap Text and the column list.

The Show menu picks which properties appear, as table columns and as tags on the cards. All Properties and No Properties toggle them together. Reset puts every column back.

Sorting

The sort menu offers Imported, Created, Name, Duration, File size, Dimensions, and every property. Relevance appears while a text condition is active and is the default then. The second group flips the direction, worded for the key: Newest first, Longest first, Highest first, A to Z.

Reset View, next to the menus, puts the shelf back to grid, newest first, every property, nothing wrapped. It shows only while the shelf differs from that.

Selection

Selection works like Finder.

Quick Look

Press Space with a clip selected. A window opens with the clip playing edge to edge, the filmstrip and its highlights over the bottom. ← and → step through the grid without closing it. Space or Esc closes. Click a highlight bar to jump there. Drag a bar out to get that highlight as a file. Open Clip opens the clip's own window.

The clip window

Double-click a card, or press Open in the inspector or the context menu. The clip opens in its own window: the player over the highlight timeline, the inspector beside it. Space plays and pauses. Press S to switch skimming on or off; with it on, moving the pointer along a strip previews that frame.

Click a highlight row and playback jumps to its start. Edit turns the window into edit mode. See Highlights.

Opening a clip that is already open brings its window to the front.

The inspector

With one clip selected the inspector shows:

• The status dropdown, the Tag with AI button, the Edit button, and a menu with Reset…, Share…, Export to Folder…, Reveal in Finder and Move to Trash….
• The name, and the AI's box while a request is pending, running or failed.
• The description, the file facts, every property with a value, and the highlights.

Hover the poster for Open Clip. The x at the top corner clears the selection.

With several clips selected it shows the selection as a stack, the status dropdown (Mixed when they differ), a Tag with AI menu with Tag All with AI and Tag Empty with AI, an Edit button that opens the bulk edit sheet, the shared description, the files added up, and the properties. A solid chip is on every clip, a dimmed one on some.

With nothing selected in an empty library, the inspector shows the library's card: what it is about, its properties and who fills them, and the four steps ahead.

The context menu

Right-click a card or a row. When the clip is part of the selection the menu acts on the whole selection.

Copy and paste metadata

Copy Metadata takes one clip's description, tags and values. Paste Metadata writes them onto the selection. Fields that only fill a blank apply at once. Anything that would replace an existing value goes through a checklist first, one checkbox per field with what it replaces.

Bulk edit

Select several clips and press ⌘E, or click Edit in the inspector. The sheet shows the name, the description and every property over the selection. Every pending change is spelled out under the property it concerns, for example "Add Gym to the 5 clips without it". Nothing is written until Apply. Anything you leave alone stays as it is on each clip.

Bulk edit is off while the AI has any of the clips, since what lands would replace the edits.

Move to Trash

⌘⌫, the Delete key, or Move to Trash… in a menu. The app asks first. The originals go to the macOS Trash; the clips, with their tags, highlights and descriptions, leave the library.
